In field pupation occurs at the base of the plants in a shelter or leaf debris etc. The adults live for 6 to 8 days and during these periods the females are capable of laying 325 eggs.

Production procedure

A bouquet of Chromolaena foliage is prepared and placed in sealed plastic containers with water. The bouquets are placed in either transparent plastic containers or 30 x 30 x 30 cm cages for egg laying. Moths lay eggs usually in groups. Once egg laying is observed moths are collected back and the process is repeated. The larvae on hatching are provided fresh leaves every day till development is completed. All stages can be utilized for field releases.
